Do you check fountain pens for nib alignment, baby's bottom, and feedback, etc?Updated 9 months ago

A fountain pen's nib is the most important part of the pen. Much of its function, quality, and enjoyment is focused on the delicate tip. The nib can make or break the pen, regardless whether the pen is made from plastic or solid gold.

Of all the pen makers in the world, Goldspot prefers to stock pens that have a reputation for quality and reliability. We trust that all the brands we represent perform quality control checks on all their fountain pens.

Although a majority of the fountain pens we sell are great writers right out of the box, it does happen sometimes that a nib might be misaligned, have baby's bottom, or exhibit a scratchy feedback. We've even seen a pen that had a nib with no slit! That won't flow!

To give our pen pals the peace of mind, we do provide a courtesy visual inspection on all pens above $300. If your purchase is below $300 and you would like to request a nib check prior to shipping, please write a note in the order comments during checkout.

Also, by special request, you could ask for a dip test. We will usually use Waterman Serenity Blue to test the nib's writing ability. If it writes and passes our inspection, we will send the pen on its way. If it does not, we will find another pen in stock that does write correctly or contact you to explore alternatives.
